Sorting Bolts, Nuts and Washers by size

Children sort the nuts, bolts and washer by size.  Placing them together.

Measurement box with Mat

Place objects in a box that can be measured by length.  )Pencil, bolts, rubber worm, cloths pin and other objects)  Have children measure the objects by placing objects onto the mat above the line of squares.  Next have children place 1 inch measuring squares under the object to determine the length of the object.  Which one is the longest?  How many inches is the object? (= number of squares)

Which is lighter?  Which is heavier?

Place objects in a box that can be weighed.  Ask children which is lighter?  Which is heavier?  Children will be given hands on experience of beginning measurement concepts.  Have the children experiment with lighter, heavier and balance.

Measuring Liquids

Children will be given hands on experience of measuring and comparing liquid.  Provide containers for children to measure into (gallon, ½ gallon, quart and pint) mark different measurements onto the containers.  Provide the children with measuring spoons and measuring cups.  (nesting cups and measuring cups)
