Children need areas in the classroom environment that provides them with a since of privacy.

Space for privacy in a preschool classroom is an area where a single child or a pair of children are able to relax or play together without intrusion.

Classroom environments need to have a variety of privacy areas available through out the day.

·         A small cozy area for a child to enjoy a book.

·         Computer table for one or two children.

·         A small table with just enough area for one or two children to write or draw.

·         A small area off the dramatic play area where one child can extend the play.

·         A small area for one or two children to use flannel board stories.

·         A small area where one or two children can use the puppets.

Remember that privacy spaces must be easy for staff to supervise.

We used a large washer/dryer box.  The children painted the outside of the box.  We add a small throw blanket and pillow inside the box for comfort.  On the outside we hung a scarf and attached it on each corner, giving it a nice cozy appearance.
