The old man is snoring.

He went to bed and bumped his head

And couldn’t get up in the morning.

*Rain Painting Have children sprinkle powder tempera paint onto white construction paper.  Then have the children set the paper outside in the rain.  Children will be able to observe the rain mixing the powder tempera paint on the paper.

*Rainy Day Walk Have children come to school with an umbrella.  Take the children on a walk in the rain, using their umbrellas.  Have the children stop and listen to the rain hitting their umbrellas.  Make sure you have extras for the children that did not bring one.

Walking Around the Puddle Make puddle shapes out of blue construction paper, laminate for durability.  Have children stand next to the paper puddles.  Play The Circle song Hap Palmer CD Getting to Know Myself

Science Discoveries
Rain Meter

Children will gain knowledge about the changes of weather.  Children will develop measuring and time skills by recording rainfall over a period of time.

·        Take a 2 liter bottle and cut the top off about 4” from the top.

·        Place the screwed top end inside the new opening of the bottle.  Tape around the edge.

·        With permanent marker, mark the inches on the outside of the bottle.

·        Place outside so it can collect rain.

Meteorologist

Children will learn about weather words and the works of meteorologists as they begin to observe, describe and record the weather.

Create a Weather chart.  How many days are sunny, cloudy, rainy or windy.

Each day have the children find the weather of the day on the weather wheel.  Chart it on the chart and keep a running record.

Block Area

Add PVC pieces of rain gutters.  Children will be able to create ramps with the pieces so that they can roll things down them.

Add PVC pipe and pipe fittings.  Children will be able to make water pipe structures.
