Circle/Group Time *Read the book The Jacket I Wear In
The Snow by: Shirley Neitzel *Mitten/Glove
Parade Have each child wear a pair of mitten or gloves to school and have a winter parade. When the
children are done marching around to the music, have them take a seat at circle. Graph the mittens and
gloves to see which one had the most.
*Mitten/Glove Prints Get a supply of old mittens and gloves. Set out trays of paint.
Have the children put on the gloves or mittens and place their hands in the trays of paint. Next
have them place their hands onto a sheet of paper.
*Zip/Snap/Velcro/buttoned
Set out clothing items that need to be zipped, snapped, and buttoned or Velcro together. Encourage the
children to put them together. This is a great fine- motor activity. It will also help
to promote self help skills.

Fill a metal can
with ice. · Add rock salt · Cover can with lid. The
metal can, will start to form frost on the outside of the can. Have children observe with magnifying glasses
Setting Up the Environment Dramatic Play In
your dramatic play area add winter clothing items like (boots, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, jackets). If
you live in a rainy climate add items of clothing that would pertain to your area (umbrella, rain jacket, galoshes and slickers)
Book Nook Cover
the book area floor with quilt batting so that it looks like snow. Bring in lots of extra pillows to make
it extra cozy.
