*Read the big book Who will help the Little
Red Hen?
*Have the children retell the story with a pocket chart. Have the charters
separate form the sentence strips so the children are able to move the text around and retell it again.
*Make head bands for the children to wear at group time. Have the children
act out the story. Narrate the story so the children know what to do.

This is the way we help. So we can help and learn. Is a class book with pictures of the
children doing things that help in the classroom. This class-book goes with the class rules to help reinforce what they
are learning.
*Bread Tasting Have the children taste different kinds of bread (wheat, white, blueberry and
poppy bread) Graph which one the children liked the best.
*Make Bread Have the children help make different kinds of bread.
Do some bread in the oven and some in a bread machine. Serve for snack. Graph
which one the children liked the best.
*Oat Clay Make a supply of oat clay. Have the
children create what they want out of the clay and let it air dry over night. It will turn rock hard.
This is great for those 3-D projects. Recipe
for Oat Clay 3 cups rolled oats (you
can use instant or old fashioned) 2
1/3 cups all-purpose flour 1 ½ cups water Food coloring optional Stir together all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl, add more flour if necessary, until the
dough forms a lump. Add flour as needed until it is smooth and not to sticky.
*Egg Counting Set out a supply of plastic eggs and egg cartons. On the
inside top of egg carton place a number of 1-12. Have the children open up the egg carton find the number
and place the right amount of eggs in the carton.
*Flour Sifting Get out a supply of dish pans. Put flour in the pans
with sifters, measuring cups, measuring spoons, bread pans and muffin tins. Watch the flour sifting fun
begin.
*Paper Plate Hens and Chicks set out a supply of different size paper plates. Set
out a tray of red and yellow paints with brushes. Have different shapes and color of construction paper
for wings and feet. Next have trays with buttons, feathers, packing peanuts, lace, rickrack and any other
kind of collage material to make a hen and chick with. Set out bottles of glue let the children crate their
own version of a hen or chick.

Dramatic Play Area: Turn your dramatic
play area into a bakery. Have the children come up with the items they want to sale and bake in their bakery.
Make menus with their ideas (Muffins, Bread, Cakes, Cookies, and Pies). Put aprons, mixing bowls,
wooden spoons, old electric mixer with out the cord, measuring cups, measuring spoons, bread pans, muffin pans, cake pans,
cash register, play money, writing pads, pencils, cookie cook books and recipe cards.
Block Area: Add farm animals,
tractors and mini bails of hay. Add barn blue prints and tractor brochures. Make a barn
with the children out of a box.
Writing Area: Add word plates (hen, chicks, dog, duck, wheat, and bread). Add recipe cards and
grocery lists. Add egg shaped pads.
