Snow Pals
Group Time Activity:
*Read the book One
Snowflake At A Time, have props to help keep the interest
of the children. Ask the children wear they have seen snow people. Dictate what they say.

*Graphing Fun Which snowpal version did you like best? Make a graph and find out. Prepare a column graph
as shown. Let each child pick their favorite snowpal card from a basket. Then invite
the children to come up and tape their card to the appropriate column on the graph. Have the children count
the different columns and then discuss the findings.
*Sock Snow Pals Make snow pals from old or new
socks. These guys will bring your story alive when reading during circle time. Fill
a sock ¼ of the way with rice or as round as you would like. Next place two styro foam balls inside
the sock (I used 3 inch balls), tie the sock off at the top with a ribbon and fold down the top of the sock to form a hat.
Garnish you snow pal with buttons and other items that you might like to use. The sand pal is made
the same way but using only one styro foam ball and the sock was stained using coffee.
*Finger Puppet Song, Five little Snowmen Fat

Keep repeating with
different snowman parts (snow head, snow tummy, snow bottom ect.)
*Paper snowball throw, play music and let the
children throw paper snowball at one another and when the music stop they freeze. Play with them and let
the fun begin.
*Ice
and Rock Salt Experiment, freeze a lot of different sizes of ice (in different sizes of bowls, ice cubes, milk cartons
and egg cartons) Place rock salt, containers of colored water and droppers next to trays of ice. Let the
children experiment with the color and rock salt. Let it sit the rock salt will start to melt and make cavities
that the children can mix colors in.
*Finger Paint, mix a batch of shaving cream, glue and white
paint. Let the children finger paint on large pieces of butcher paper or construction paper.
Have glitter and iridescent confetti near by so children can add it to the creation or not.
*Berry basket prints, get empty strawberry baskets
and trays of white paint. Let the children dip the bottom of the baskets into the trays of paint and press
them onto dark color construction paper. See how it can make frost or snowflakes; let the children embellish
their prints with glitter or iridescent confetti. You can also use body wash puffs and sponges.
*Collage Snow Pals, have circles traced onto white
paper in different sizes, let the children cut them out. (They can use as many circles as they want or
as few as they want remember that it is their project) Have trays of different kinds of college material,
glue and a large sheet of construction paper. Not one snow pal will look the same.
Science Discoveries Jack Frost Children will gain knowledge about the changes of weather. ·
Fill a metal can
with ice. · Add rock salt ·
Cover can with
lid. The metal can, will start to form frost on
the outside of the can. Have children observe with magnifying glasses.
*Make a Sand Pal Bring in some sand and shovels
it into some plastic tubs or dishpans. Dampen the sand with water. Place different sizes
of ice cream scoops, melon scoops, measuring spoons, cookie scoops, bowls and empty water bottles. Cut
the bottles in half so the children can utilize both ends. Provide the children with buttons, goggle eyes,
pipe cleaners, twigs, pieces of rectangular fabric, milk caps, craft straw hats and felt craft hats. Watch
the sculpting begin, your children will be creating their own version of the Sand Pal.
*Bubble wrap prints, get packing bubble wrap and tape it
to the table. Have cups of paint that the children can paint on the bubble wrap with. Have
sheets of paper for the children to place on top of the painted bubble wrap and have them rub the paper and then pull it up.
See all the wonderful prints it will create.
*Soapy
Sculpture Make a batch of Ivory Snow clay and let the children create 3-D sculptures. Have a supply
of cardboard squares for the children to use for the foundation.
Soapy Clay 4 cups of Ivory Snow flakes laundry soap 1 cup of water Mix up the Ivory Snow and water in a large mixing bowl. Whip
with an electric beater until it is doughy. Let air dry.
Salt Clay Equal parts of salt and
flour Mix water into salt and flour mixture until you get the consistency of play dough. Air Dry
