*Leaf Graphing
Have a bag of different leaves (red, yellow, orange and brown). Let each child reach into the bag and grab
a leaf. Have a sheet of butcher paper ready in advance with the different leaves at the top of each column.
After the children get a leaf from the bag have them tap it under the same leaf. When all the children
have placed a leaf count out loud to see which column has the most leaves. Write the number at the bottom
of the column.
*Finger Play Five Little Leaves Five little leaves so bright and
gay (hold up 5 fingers) Were dancing about on a tree one day (flutter fingers) The
wind came blowing through town (make a wind sound) One little leaf came tumbling to the ground (remove one leaf) Keep repeating until there are no leaves left.
*Nature Walk Take the children on a nature walk and talk with them about how the leaves are changing colors.
Play the eye spy game as you walk, keep in mind the colors of fall for the game. (I spy something
red) Let the children collect items as they walk, give each child a brown lunch bag for their collection.
*Make Peanut Butter Bring in a bag of roasted peanuts and almonds. Blend the nuts in a
blender or food processor with 1 to 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. See if they like almond butter better
than peanut butter. Serve with crackers.
*Make Your Own Tree Let the children create their own tree out of toilet paper rolls, paper
towel rolls, craft sticks, construction paper, brown paper bags, masking tape, real sticks, pipe cleaners, and any other items
you can think of to use for a tree. Give children a supply of glue, cardboard squares and tape.
Allow the children to crate a tree as they see a tree. Remember that art is the process not the
product. Bellow we used scrapes of Styrofoam, tooth picks and packing peanuts.
Once they created the sculpture the children used small spray bottles with water down paint and squirted their sculpture.

*Nut Sorting Have a basket of mixed nuts and kitchen tongs. In advance make nuts sorting
plates, by cutting out the shape of the different nuts in the basket and laminate them for durability. Have
the children use the kitchen tongs to pick up the nuts and place them on the appropriate nut plate. This
is a great fine motor activity to help build the muscles in the hands for those pre writing skills.
*Squirt Art Place a supply of wide but shallow cardboard boxes on the table with fresh fallen leaves and small
squirt bottles filled with liquid watercolor or water down paint. Have the children lay a sheet of construction
paper inside the box and arrange leaves on top of the paper. Have the children squirt the leaves and paper
with the squirt bottles. When done have the children lift off the leave and expose the reverse print.
*Nature Collage Place the contents of the brown lunch bags from the children’s walk in the center of
a table. Have a supply of construction paper, paper plates, shoe boxes, shoe box lids and cardboard so
the children can chose what they want to use. Give each child glue and scissors and have them create their
own nature collage.
