*Finger Play,
Five little black crows. Make a storytelling glove. Get a garden glove that is black.
On the tip of the fingers glue on goggle eyes, black feathers, triangle of orange or yellow felt for beak and even
small straw hat on top.

it’s getting late.” The second one said “There are black crows flying
in the air.” The third one said “But we don’t care!” The forth one said “They are ready to land.” The fifth one said “Boo! Lets scare all the crows away.”

*Paint with straw; make paintbrushes out of straw by rubber banding a bundle together.
Set out trays of paint and let the children create their own fall painting.
*Nature Scarecrow Face Plate: Have the children go on a nature
walk. Let the children collect items in a lunch bag that they found while on the walk. Give
each child a paper plate and glue. Let them create a scarecrow face out of the items that they found on
their walk. They can even give it arms and legs with sticks. Items the child could
collect; leafs, rocks, sticks, pine cones, paper, feathers, grass, seeds, seed pods, and flowers.
*Body Tracing, trace around the children’s body on white butcher paper.
Cut out their body shapes. Let the children color, paint and collage their body shapes into their
own scarecrow. Display around the room.
*Build a class Scarecrow: Have the children bring in items from
home to make a class scarecrow. Send a note home to the parents giving them ideas of items you might want.

*Paper bag Crows: Have children stuff a brown lunch sack.
Then have the children paint the paper sack. When the paint is dry let the children turn their sack
into a crow by giving them feather, buttons, yarn, scrap construction paper, goggle eyes and glue. You
will have a whole lot of crows that the scarecrows can scare away.
Dramatic Play Area: Add straw hats, boots, jackets, overalls and work gloves to the area so the children can pretend
to be a scarecrow.
Book Area: Create a Scarecrow reading buddy. Get child size clothing and stuff with pillow
cotton. Sew the pieces together so it does not come apart. The buddy can be moved around
the room.
Sand and Water Table: Add Pop Corn Kernels to your sand and water table. Put measuring cups, funnels and
scoopers into the table also.
Book Nook: Create a Scarecrow reading buddy. Get child size clothing and stuff with pillow cotton.
