*Apple Estimating Have a basket of apples and have the children guess how many
apples are in the basket. Write down what they say. Count out loud the apples in the
basket and see who came the closest to guessing the apples.

the book Ten Apples Up on Top By: Dr. Seuss. Take
a picture of each child in the class and make your own of Apples On Top book. Get apple
stickers or pre-cut apples and glue or stick the apples above the child’s picture like there are apples on their head.
Next at the bottom write the child’s name and how many apples are on top. Jane has 1 apple
on top.

Apple Sauce Have children peel and cut apples into small pieces. Place the apples into a crock-pot,
add water, cinnamon and sugar. Cook for a few hours in the classroom so the children can enjoy the aroma.

Tasting Have parent bring in a variety of apples. Cut the different varieties of apples into pieces
so that the children can taste each one. After each child has tasted the apples graph which one was the
favorite? In advance make your graphing sheet with the different types of apples at the top (red, green,
yellow). Have a batch of pre-cut apples in the different colors. When the children tell
you which one is their favorite write their name on that color apple. Have the child place it under their
favorite apple. Count out loud the number of apple under each color apple write that number at the bottom.

Dice Make a couple of settees of apple dice. You can use small square boxes or wood blocks.
Place apple stickers on the dice to form the dots. When the children roll the dice have them compare
the two, does one have more or less apples?
Math and Manipulative Area: Place balance scales and kitchen scales in the math area.
Add a basket of different types of apples to the area so the children can weigh, sort and make pattern with the real
apples.
