the color of the children’s eyes.

the color of the children’s hair. *Graph what kind of hair they have (long, short and curly).

the number of boys and girls.
*Guess
who game: Teacher identifies a child by what he or she is wearing, color of eyes and color of hair.
See if the children can guess who the teacher is thinking of.
*What
do I weigh? Weigh the children so they can see how much they weigh compared to one another. How
Tall am I? Measure all the children on a growth chart. Display it in the classroom so the children
can see how much they have grown throughout the year.

*Shoe
Sorting Have the children take off their shoes and place in the middle of the circle. Have the children
talk about what is the same and different about their shoes and sort them accordingly. See if there are
any other ways that they could sort them.

*Self
Expression: Let the children create a face that they feel represents themselves. Give
each child a paper plate, yarn, buttons, construction paper, markers and glue. Let the children create
a collage representation.
*Body
Part Tracing: Trace hand, trace arm, trace foot, and trace leg onto butcher paper. Let
them color and measure their body parts. They can compare to one another who’s is longest and shortest.
Who’s are the biggest and the smallest? Have yard for measuring or fabric measuring tapes.
*Mirror
Painting: Get mirrors that will sit on a table by themselves and also have some mirrors that are floor
standing. Have cups of paint with small brushes, water bottles and paper towels. Let
the children paint themselves in the mirror. They can spray the mirror with water and wipe clean with the
paper towels. You can also have them draw a self portrait, using the mirror as a reference.
*What
letter does your name start with? In your group area have an alphabet at the children’s level.
Write each child’s name on a sentence strip and have them find the first letter of their name and then let the
child staple their name under that letter. Let them see what other friends have the same first letter.
*Hand Tracing/Foot Tracing Have the children trace around their hands and feet.
When they have completed that encourage the children to trace around one another’s hands and feet.
Hokey
Pokey Do the Hokey Pokey with the children and let them name
the body part that they sing and move to next.
Dramatic Play Area Turn your dramatic play area into a Beauty Shop and Barber
Shop. Let the children name the shops. Add props like old curling irons, old blow-dryers, hair clips
and combs.
Science area Place pictures of human X-ray pictures
in the area and see if the children can identify the parts by the bones.
Have the children create a people pot
and plant grass in it. The children can watch the grass hair grow, they can measure the growth and even cut and style
the grass hair.
