Pizza Pizzeria
*Read: The Little Red Hen makes a Pizza. Have the children talk
about other things that the little Red Hen could make. Dictate what the children say. (Model writing)
*Have a person come in and make a pizza with the children. (If
you don’t have anyone that can come in, make a large pizza in front of the children.) Introduce the
children to cooking safety; also talk to the children about good cooking habits. (Wash your hands before
touching food; clean the area that food will be touching, using pot holders for items that are hot, ect.) Write
down the cooking rules so that the children can refer back to it.
Pizza Song (Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star) Pizza, Pizza it’s
a treat Pizza, Pizza is fun to eat! Ooey-gooey cheese so yummy. Crunch crust goes in my tummy Pizza, Pizza it’s a treat Pizza, Pizza is fun
to eat.
*Pizza Pie Collage Give each child a paper plate and all kinds of pizza topping
collage material. Let the children glue the material onto paper plates.
Setting Up The Environment
Dramatic Play Area Turn your play house into a pizza
parlor. Add pizza making ingredients with felt,
yarn and cardboard cut outs. Add a cash register, play money, Pizza menus,
pizza pans, order pads, pencils, pizza boxes, pizza phone book, phone and aprons.
Block Area Add different size of boxes that can
be made into different pizza store fronts by the children. Add pizza delivery
maps
Math Center
*Pepperoni Counting Make pizzas with pepperonis on them have the corresponding
number on the back. Have the children use red poker chips to count the pepperonis on the pizza. *Pizza Pie Patterning/Sorting Make different pizzas out of construction
paper and laminate for durability. Cut the pizzas into pieces and have the children sort the pieces by
type of pizza. Also have them make a pizza pattern.
Writing Area Add recipe cards, grocery lists, word
cards for writing the grocery list, pizza logo rubbings (make by making copies of pizza logos and enlarge on copy machine.
Copy logos onto card stock paper. Use a glue gun and trace the logo with the hot glue.
Let dry and the children can place paper over them and make rubbings.)
Table Top Toys
Add rolling pins/pizza
cutters, garlic presses, bottle caps and buttons to play dough area
Make a play dough pizza book (make pictures out of construction
paper and glue wording to the bottom)

Area *Make a pizza number counting book (one pepperoni, two mushrooms ect.) *Add the children’s pizza recipe book *Add an Environmental
Print Pizza Book, have parent bring in different pizza boxes (small) cut off the top of the pizza box and poke holes so that
you can place binder rings through it. On each pizza box top write Tami
eats pizza from Pizza Hut. _________ eats pizza from___________.
