Train Theme
Engine On The Track Here
is the engine on the tracks. (hold up thumb) Here is the coal car, just in back.
(pointer) Here is the box car to carry freight. (middle) Here
is the mail car. Don’t be late. (ring) Way back here at the end
of the train. (little) Rides the caboose through the sun and rain.
*Train Whistles Cut a supply of wax
paper squares. Have children place the wax paper squares over the end of a paper tube and secure with a
rubber band. Let children decorate their whistle with stickers and markers. Children
blow air in the open end and listen to the sound.
*Number Train Make a train out
of construction paper. Have the engine in front and box cars behind the engine. Number
each box car 1-10 or higher depended on the group. Have the children place the box cars in order.
Laminate for durability.
*Sound Train Make
a train out of construction paper. Have the engine in front and the box cars behind the engine.
Write a different letters on the box cars that you are working on. Have the children place pictures
on the box car with the right beginning letter sound.

*Paper Tube Train Set out a supply
of paper tubes with paint glue and different items for the children to create their own version of a train. We
set out bottle caps, paper scraps, buttons, and packing peanuts.
*Train
Tracks Set out a supply of rectangle construction paper in brown and black. Have pipe cleaners, craft
sticks, q tips and packing peanuts for the children to create the train tracks.
*Printed
Trains Set out items that can be used to make paint prints with (corks, empty tread spools, rectangle sponges, and square
sponges) and trays of paint. Have a supply of long white paper for them to create their train on.

*Engine
and Caboose Set out a supply of foam packing pieces for the children to paint with glue paint. Have
items (paper tubes, strips of paper, cotton, bottle tops and paper circles) for the children to turn their foam into a engine
or the caboose.
Book Nook Turn
your book area into a reading train. Connect boxes together to form a train. Make sure
your boxes are large enough for a child to sit in. Place books in each box so the children can read in
the reading train.
