Circle/Group Time

*Read the book Good Night Moon. Have a discussion about what the children do right before they go to bed. Do they say goodnight to any thing or any one? Dictate what the children say.

*Retell the story with a pocket chart. On sentence strips write Goodnight and a line that the children can fill in. Next have sentence strips with words from the book and pictures. Have the children place the words in the pocket chart next to the word Goodnight. Have the children retell the story by reading the pocket chart.

*Do the rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle with the children. Discuss what is the same about the rhyme and what is different about the rhyme. Dictate what the children say.

Hey Diddle Diddle

Hey diddle diddle,
the cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon,
The little dog laughed to see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

*Moon Prints Set out different colors of construction paper. Set out trays of paint and different sizes of balloons. Have children dip the balloons in the trays of paint and press onto the paper.

*Paper Plate Moons Make a batch of 3-D paint. Have the children finger paint or brush paint with the 3-D paint (make white and yellow). To make 3-D paint, mix together shaving cream and glue in six to one ratio of shaving cream and glue. Add white or yellow paint. Place scoops of mixture into containers for the children to finger paint or brush paint with. Have children paint onto different sizes of paper plates. Set out small shakers of glitter for the children to top off their painting with.

*Bed and Pillow Letter Match Have the children match the upper case pillow to the lower case bed. Make copies of bed and pillow from the back of the lesson onto colored construction paper. Make enough for the whole alphabet. Write an upper case letter on the pillow and a lower case letter on the bed. Laminate for durability.

*Space Sensory Bottles Children will develop science skills about gravity in motion, liquid separation and buoyancy.

· Have children fill recycled water bottle with water.

· Add colored water or colored distilled water.

· Add glitter, foam pieces, buttons, small pieces of drinking straws and sequins.

· Hot glue lid.

*Night Sky Have children draw a picture on black construction paper with a white crayon or chalk. Next have the children enhance their picture with glue and glitter. Have child tell you about their picture. Dictate what the child said.
